Is it better for the government to provide free health care? Or invest funds in education and culture?
Many people assert that free health care should be given by the government, while others think that education and culture should be drawn more attention by the government. Health care is very important; however, I think that education and culture are much more essential than contemporary advanced medical treatment.
The first reason is that too much funds for free health care might lead to misuse of medicine. People would not cherish what they easily obtain. They tend to doctor and make medical records difficult to trace. As a result, doctors who do not have patients’ previous medical record from other hospital, have to repeat the same examination and prescribe the same medicine to the same patient. On the other hand, taking double dosage of the same drug would risk the patient’s life.
Furthermore, this will cause a tension between doctor – patient’s relationship. However, funding in education will uplift citizen’s national quality. Educated people can be more health conscious. They will tend to change their lifestyle to prevent chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. The decreasing occurrence of diseases brings energetic society which consequently makes a country become prosperous.
Culture and traditions are roots of a nation. These invisible heritage should be protected by the government because this will awaken one’s patriotism. By doing so, citizens will be more aware of events that are happening right now from what had happened before.
As mentioned above, my opinion supports that the government should invest more funds in education and culture for these reasons stated.
With the stated reasons above, I believe that the government should invest more funds in education and culture.
